Fire Safety Week was celebrated at Brady Elementary October 10-12, 2011. The goal of the daily events was to teach students fire safety.
During fire prevention week firefighters visited Brady to teach rules of fire prevention. The students learned to do an inspection of their home to make sure smoke detector batteries are checked and to make sure the family has a meeting place in case of a fire.
They also teach them what to do to get out of the home if there is a fire in the house. The students also had the chance to see the firefighters in full gear.
This lets them know that the firefighters are there to help them. During a fire when children see the firefighters in their uniforms they are afraid and think they are monsters. This helps the students learn that the fire fighters are there to get them out safe because children usually hide when they wake up to fires and see firefighters in the uniforms.
The students also had the chance to see a fire truck and get familiar with the truck and the equipment.
