The Accelerated Learning Center (ACC) provides effective education to students identified as needing a flexible, nontraditional learning environment with alternative ways to acquire either a high school diploma or a general education diploma.

This is accomplished by offering students personalized, multifaceted computer-based instruction, as well as career-technical preparation in a nurturing, stimulating, student-centered environment. Students are empowered with the academic skills, quality life skills, and technical competency to become productive, responsible adults.

The core principles of the Accelerated Learning Center are:

Individualized, self-paced instruction delivered via PLATO® computerized instruction
-Instructor-facilitated learning environment
-State certified teachers
-Advisor/advisee component

ACC offers a customized curriculum that is:
-Aligned to Arkansas state standards
-Aligned to LRSD curriculum and priorities

The GED/At-Risk Program is another strong component of the Accelerated Learning Center and is responsible for the following:

-Identifying and diagnosing the educational level of students via the TABE for proper educational placement

-Providing referral information and assistance to students and parents to help them access needed school and community-based services, such as child care assistance, on and off-campus housing referrals, and communication with probation officers and other social service agencies

-Visiting homes or job sites of truant students to assist students and parents in getting students back in school

Student enrollment is limited to Little Rock School District students only due to the limited numbers of seats available. There is open entry/open exit policy which allows students to work at their own pace and once completed with the graduation requirements, they are completed with school regardless of the time period or the semester.

Evening High School: Little Rock School District offers a credit recovery program at the Accelerated Learning Center for students needing to make-up credit in order to stay on track for graduation. Students attend two nights a week from 6:00-9:00 p.m. to work on courses needed.

The Accelerated Learning Center (ACC) is located at Metropolitan Career-Technical Center and has been in existence since August, 1998. Students must apply to become a student at the ACC through their high school counselor, must be 18 years of age or older and must have failed one or more courses. Students and parents are required to attend an interview and cannot have been suspended for one year for a Category two or three offense prior to being accepted into the program. Transportation is not provided for ACC students because students have the flexibility of coming at different times during the day and are required to attend a minimum of four seat hours per day. Students are provided with a graduation plan, which indicates the number of credits needed to complete the state required graduation credits needed and upon completion of those credits, receives their diploma from the school they attended prior to entering the Accelerated Learning Center.
